Song Cover Artwork

Overview
Challenge
The project involved designing a song cover for Take a Breath, a powerful collaboration born in the wake of Roe v. Wade's fall. The cover needed to reflect themes of empowerment, resilience, and reclaiming control, while conveying the collective strength of diverse voices. The challenge was to balance abstraction and emotional impact, ensuring the art elevated the song’s message without feeling overly literal or realistic.
Transformation
Initial iterations included diverse faces to symbolize unity and perspective, but the client desired a more abstract approach to shift the focus from individual faces to shared emotion. Drawing from their Pinterest inspiration, the design evolved into a bold and colorful composition.
The final artwork features:
Abstract silhouettes: The overlapping, colorful profiles represent collective voices, blending individuality into a unified, abstract expression of strength.
Vibrant palette: The use of yellow, pink, and green evokes optimism and energy, while maintaining emotional depth.
Bold typography: "Take A Breath" is hand-drawn in a raw, expressive style, reflecting defiance and power.
Personal touch: The handwritten names of the artists at the bottom emphasize the song’s intimate, collaborative roots.
This transformation distills the raw emotion of the song into an abstract yet impactful visual language.
Story
The final design for Take a Breath captures the essence of the song’s message: reclaiming power, finding strength in unity, and standing up for fundamental rights. The abstract silhouettes symbolize the collective voices of those affected, while the vibrant colors and bold text reinforce the message of resilience and hope.
This artwork serves as a visual anthem for the song, embodying its powerful call for action and reflection in a time of change.
